October turned by maple’s leaves to gold;
The most are gone now; here and there one lingers;
Soon these will slip from the twig’s weak hold,
Like coins between a dying miser’s fingers.

10월이 내 단풍 나뭇잎을 황금색으로 물들였네
이제 거의 다 떨어지고 여기저기 한 잎씩 매달렸네
머쟎아 그 잎들도 힘없는 가지로부터 떨어질 것
죽어가는 수전노의 손가락에서 흘러나오는 동전처럼
